28TH ANNUAL STRATHROY CARADOC CANCER GOLF TOURNAMENT SURPASSES FUNDRAISING GOAL

The 28th annual Strathroy Caradoc Cancer Golf Tournament, held at Bear Creek Golf & Country Club on June 14th, 2014 exceeded fundraising expectations, according to the event organizing committee.  An astounding $29,000 was raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, silent auction items, 50/50 draw and wheelbarrow of wine raffle.

Dr. Gary Perkin was the Master of Ceremony at the event, which was dedicated to the memories of Bernie Bates, Mary Crowley and Phil Medlyn.  Dr. Nancy Naylor addressed the audience with an emotional story of her journey through breast cancer along with her testimonial about the importance of expanding breast cancer services locally, as this is exactly what the event proceeds will be supporting.

Specifically, the $29,000 raised through this tournament will help to purchase new ultrasound equipment with biopsy capabilities which will greatly improve access to cancer care at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital while also helping to reduce growing wait times within the region.

“On behalf of the event committee and myself, I would like to express my gratitude for everyone who helped to make this event so successful.  The support from attendees and sponsors was incredible.  Thanks to their generosity, we were able to donate a larger amount of funds than ever before,” says Marlene Duister, Chair of the Strathroy Caradoc Cancer Golf Tournament (SCCGT) Committee.  “We are so please to be able to present the SMGH Foundation with this contribution in support of local breast cancer services.”
